Mitchell was born September 23, 1957 to Evelena Mitchell and the late Leroy Mitchell. He accepted Christ at an early age at New Hope M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L.R. Skipper. J.D. Mitchell attended Coahoma Agriculture High School. Then he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving our country, he returned home to Jonestown., Mississippi, where he fathered a baby girl (Tina). He soon met and married the love of his life, Brenda Dye, and to this union three children were born, Jodeci, Evelyn, and Brendlyn. J.D. Mitchell served as an ordained Deacon at the New Hope M.B. Church where he was a faithful member. He was a man of many talents. He was very skillful with his hands. He was carpenter, welder, and he worked on cars. He also was employed at Delta Oil Mill in Jonestown, Mississippi, for several years. J.D. Mitchell was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Mitchell; stepfather, Harvey Williams; and four sisters, Maeola Evans, Bobby Lee, Minnie Pearl Rodgers, Brenda Mitchell; and two brothers, Jessie Phillips and T.J. Berry. J.D. Mitchell leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Brenda Dye Mitchell; his mother, Evelena Williams, four children, Tina (Alphonso) Hamilton of Gulfport, Mississippi, Jodeci (Christy) Mitchell of Arizona, Evelyn Mitchell and Brendlyn Mitchell, both of Jonestown, Mississippi; six brothers, John Phillips, Archie (Annie) Phillips, Benard Mitchell, and Willie Mitchell, all of Chicago, Illinois; Charles (Vee) Mitchell of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Eddie (Debra) Mitchell of Jonestown, Mississippi; six sisters, Annie Mae Williams of Jonestown, Mississippi Daisey Morgan, Sylvia Galloway of Arizona, Lovie Mitchell and Berlinda Berry, both of Chicago, Illinois; and Arteria Mitchell of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; three children that he helped raise, Lapamela Johnson, Cashara Johnson, and Darrin Johnson, 12 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
